Santa Cruz Mtns Wine-Vinocruz-Tasting with Fernwood Cellars and winemaker Matt Oetinger

Matt Oetinger’s Fernwood Cellars is located high in the Santa Cruz Mountains. He grows different varietals at each of his three vineyards, and makes several premium wines. Each exhibits the unique characteristics of the properties they are from.

Oetinger’s Redwood Retreat Vineyard is just above the fog that regularly creeps into the mountains from the Pacific Ocean. Because of prolonged sun exposure, the land is well suited for growing Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, and Syrah. The Fernwood Cellars Estate Cabernet Sauvignon recently won the gold medal at the San Francisco International Wine Compeition.

Vanumanutagi Vineyard is adjacent to Redwood Retreat, sits at a slightly lower elevation. This property is more affected by the coastal fog, thus is primarily planted with Chardonnay.
