Yes, you read it right! Midlife Crisis Winery - the perfect wine for me! I can so relate since Barney and I felt the same way before we opened our wonderful wine shop and like Jill and her husband Kevin we were worker bees in the corporate race and said "There has to be something more to life than this!" Like Jill and Kevin I worked in the television industry on the entertainment side and Barney worked as a Controller along with touring several years in music which I believe helped us to start living our dream of working for ourselves and exploring our passion for wine and feeding my alcoholism!
Midlife Crisis Winery is a VERY small winery. Just two people, Kevin and Jill Mittan, operate the winery so they wear many hats as the only staff. They are the winemakers, the cellar workers, the bottling line and the marketing and sales people and regularly fulfill that great nebulous job description of “other duties as required.” They also are still working their day jobs and hope to eventually quit so they can devote their time to their passion of wine.
Just to let you know, they are not totally crazy. Jill and Kevin do come to winemaking with real training and knowledge. They have been making wine for several years as amateur winemakers. They built a mini-winery in their garage in LA and made LOTS of wine for family and friends for free. They studied at UC Davis and with a commercial winemaker in Camarillo and spent time with winemakers and grape growers throughout the central coast. Their “garage wines” have won over 60 regional and international awards.
It is a great story! So please visit their website and read the rest at www.midlifecrisiswinery.com. I am sure it is something we have all thought about doing...I know we have but are not that brave to take on that type of challenge...plus that would mean leaving this great town!
So come join us on Friday as we get into the spirit of a little "Midlife Crisis" celebration with Midlife Crisis Winery!
